8 things that you shouldn’t put down your garbage disposal

Even though your garbage disposal is a great invention there are still some items that you definitely should never put down there.

Here is a list of items that should stay away from your garbage disposal

– Bones

Hard items should stay away from your garbage disposal in general. This makes bones a huge no when it comes to disposing them there.

– Pasta

Any sort of pasta – spaghetti, fettuccine, tagliatelle, etc. shouldn’t be disposed of in your garbage disposal. Why? It will soak in water and will expand even more.

– Oatmeal

Similar to the pasta, once oatmeal is thrown in the garbage disposal, it will start to expand and this will only cause damage.

– Egg shells

You have probably done this but dropping egg shells in the garbage disposal is not the best idea and you should stop doing it.

– Onions

Particulary, onion skins.

– Potato peels

They are very thin and will most likely slide past the disposal. This means that they will go in the drain and will hold up any other thing that you throw in the garbage disposal.

– Paint

One of the worst things you can pour down the garbage disposal is paint. It might cling to the sides and once it dries it will clog the drain.

– Shells

As I previously mentioned, hard items should stay away from your garbage disposal. That includes any shells from seafood – lobster, shrimp, oysters, crab, etc. They won’t be able to grind completely and might slip through the drain clogging it.
