Mona Liswati was working in a Korean-owned shoe factory sewing shoes when she was invited by a friend to a performance by Teater Abu (workers' theatre). She began performing with the theater troupe and in time became the troupe's lead dancer. With help from friends she left the factory and its harsh routines and become a full time performer. During this time she also discovered a passion for writing. Mona continues to perform her expressionistic style of dance and has since visited and performed her blend of modern and traditional dance in Australia and Japan. She is currently working on a novel.
“But you do have to wonder, sometimes, don’t you, what on earth is it that they are they looking for out there?”
